Lost Word Finalists

We need to write a paragraph or two about each of the included words. In addition I think we need to create link from the missing words, the symptoms if you will, to the broader disease, our perceived disconnection from the natural world. I say perceived because we have always been and will always be connected.

The loss of these words, while disheartening, reflect only the symptoms of an underlying illness. Whether the illness is “Nature Deficit Disorder” coined by Richard Louv in his Last Child in the Woods, or “the sterile preoccupation with things that are artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength” described by Rachel Carson in The Sense of Wonder, children of all ages grow increasingly disconnected from nature.

How can we treat the underlying disease?
